While streaming sites like Netflix (especially with a VPN), zoro.to, animelon and more can make finding content with subtitles easy, sometimes the content you want to watch just isn't easily available with Japanese subs. While immersing with Japanese subs isn't 100% necessary, it definitely makes it much easier for looking up words and sentence mining. So here are some tools and resources for when streaming sites fail you.

Move on

The easiest way is to move on and find something on one of the convenient streaming sites that DOES have subs. For some this is the solution, but for others, they find it more difficult to find content they are interested in and WANT to spend time hunting down that show or movie they are craving.

Download content with subs

One option is to try and find the content to download with the subs already attached. You can check some of the most popular torrenting and download resources to see if they have the show you want with subs. Here are some. (Remember to always use a VPN when torrenting for educational reasons)

Find subtitles and attach them

Sometimes you can find the show online or to download but it does not have the subtitles. Another option to try in this case is to find the subs elsewhere and attach them. We have available many subtitle repositories and resources. You can search these sites and use other tools to attach them to the streamed version, or import them into your favorite Media Player and watch them locally if you download the show. Here are some popular Subtitle Repositories.

Create Subtitles or Transcriptions (Expert Mode)

There is a new tool called “Whisper AI” that while it has a learning curve, for those that are technologically inclined could use to get highly accurate subtitles and transcripts of material and maybe also share it with the community so we can all benefit.
